Faces of Shanghai
2015 - 2019
"Faces of Shanghai" is a photography project captured between 2015 and 2019.
The project was created to provide viewers with an alternative perspective into the lives of people living in this rapidly expanding city. Shanghai is a city with many faces, uniquely positioned between two worlds. It's a society pushing itself through radical change to embrace a new vision of China's future.
Beneath the political agendas lie the many faces of Shanghai’s residents, having to adapt to China’s rapidly changing social and cultural environment.
Through this project, I hope to capture a little of the essence of this sprawling city, revealing a culture that felt both foreign and familiar. I hope to offer the viewer an alternative perspective to understand the people of this unique city. In an age of socially manipulated geopolitical tensions, it is prudent to be aware of, and connect with the faces of real people.
